How the AP Calculus BC score is calculated

The AP Calculus BC exam has two scored sections. Multiple choice is worth 50% of the exam score. Free response is worth the other 50%.

This AP Calculus BC score calculator converts 45 MCQ questions into 50 weighted points. It adds the six free-response questions for a 54 point raw total, then converts that to 50 weighted points.

The score ranges are projections. College Board sets final cut points after scoring, and those cut points can move each year.

What is a good AP Calc BC score?

A 3 is passing, but many colleges ask for a 4 or 5 for full Calculus BC credit. Some schools award different credit for the AB subscore.

A 4 is strong. A 5 is the best score and can help with placement into multivariable calculus or later math courses, depending on the college.

How to get a 5 on AP Calc BC

Make sure your AB topics are automatic. BC adds more content, but limits, derivatives, integrals, and applications still show up everywhere.

Practice series carefully. You should know convergence tests, Taylor polynomials, error bounds, and how to write a series representation.

On free response, show enough work for partial credit. Define variables, set up integrals, justify convergence, and interpret results in context.
